Minty Coco Review

Have you heard about oil pulling? I didn't until recently and was so intrigued by it I had to of course try it out for myself.

What is oil pulling?

Oil pulling is a way to clean and detoxify your mouth as well as too whiten teeth. The method is simple all you need to do is to swish 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil into your mouth for 10-15 minutes. Once time is up you spit, rinse and then brush your teeth as normal.

I firstly attempted this with normal coconut cooking oil that you can buy from the shop. It was all going well until I put the oil into my mouth and then I realised I do not like the taste of coconut.
So I gave up until a couple weeks ago when I was sent a 2 week trial  of Mintycoco  to review.

Mintycoco is a brand that sells sachets of minty flavoured coconut oil especially for oil pulling.
It contains Virgin coconut oil infused with minty peppermint essence, which for people like me who don't like the taste of coconut makes it taste much more pleasant.
With Mintycoco the sachets are easy to use there is no need for a spoon you just tear the top of the sachet, empty the contents into your mouth, swish for 10-15 minutes and then spit. You then can brush your teeth as normal. I love that they are in sachets because that means I can easily take them with me if I needed to.

Why is oil pulling good for you?

Coconut oil has so many benefits to your health such as:

  • Whitening teeth
  • Preventing bad breath
  • Improving overall oral health
  • Preventing cavities and gingivitis
  • Softens plaque
  • Rich in antioxidants
  • Clearer skin
  • Strengthening of teeth, gums and jaw

I asked my dentist about oil pulling and he admitted it was something he didn't know about and couldn't guaranteed that would work but still I've taken the 2 week trail and my teeth have never felt better so it must work to some extent.

One of the things I hate about my teeth is that they aren't pearly white, I cant use whitening toothpaste due to having weak enamel on my teeth and whitening products you buy in the store can strip the enamel. So knowing that coconut oil is gentle on your teeth made it an option for me.

Here is my teeth at the beginning of the trail.....

Here is my teeth 2 weeks later....

As you can see they have slightly whiten my teeth,I think if I did it for more than 2 week I would see more of a change in the colour. and possibly if I drank less tea!

However my teeth feel so clean, it's like I've had a hygienist appointment every morning, they feel super clean and now I have finished my pack I am going to have to get some more as I miss that squeaky clean feel.

Luckily I don't suffer from bad breath so I cant comment on that, though my gums seem much healthier. My skin was clear on the two week trail and since stopping I've had a break out but I'm not sure if that was because I wasn't using the coconut oil or down to my time of the month calling.

I would recommend this product to anyone wanting to try and change their oral health especially in a more natural and organic way to chemicals.  It's also safe to use on children, vegans, pregnant woman and people who wear braces.

You can pick these up from the Mintycoco website for £19.99 , or if you subscribe monthly it's priced at £16.99.
